1st Method: Open it in another program. When you double-click WM2D files, your computer attempts to open it in a program associated with WM2D files. If there's no program associated with WM2D files on your computer, the file won't open. To open the file, download one of the most popular programs associated with WM2D files such as Working Model Motion Simulation. 
2nd Method: Take a hint from the file type.The WM2D file extension usually indicates it's under the umbrella of Uncommon Files. However, if it's another file type, it might not open with one of the programs listed above. Take the following steps to find the file type:
Right-click the file.
Click 'Properties' (Windows) or 'More Info' (Mac).
Locate the file type under either 'Type of File' (Windows) or 'Kind' (Mac).

Wm2 DesignsWorking Model 2DIntroduction
Working Model 2D (WM2D) is a simulation program that allows for the two-dimensional simulation of multiple rigid components (aka 'objects') via an intuitive and graphic programming environment. WM2D allows object collision detection but can also be configured to avoid objects from colliding. WM2D can simulate a large set of possibly colliding objects connected via spring, dampers and gearing. Objects can also be subjected to user defined forces or torques created by servo motors, piston elements or general purpose force or torque vectors.

In our COSMOS Cluster on Engineering Design & Control of Kinetic Sculptures students use WM2D to simulate the dynamic behavior of their designed mechanical clocks and simulate the behavior of a controlled Kinetic Mini Sculpture, similar to the video below.
